Corporate events & Christmas Parties

Image
As a lot of people are still working from home it is more and more important to find different ways to create team spirit and stimulate good mental health.  Art has the power   to root us into the present moment and calm the mind. Putting aside worried thoughts or feelings of sadness relating either to events in the past or anticipated events in the future.    When someone is immersed in the creative process, like painting, it has a positive impact on our well-being by reducing stress and helping to calm and focus the mind , it is also a very enjoyable and rewarding activity , that helps to increase feelings of self-appreciation as well as give people a sense of purpose.  Art can help to give someone meaning and purpose as well as start feeling better about themselves.  In my workshops, I show people the building blocks and methods of how to assemble a painting. However the application of paint and brush strokes are unique to every individual. It always ...

New workshops, New Venues

Image
Im always working on new workshop ideas to ensure that every workshop has enough new challenges for existing customers, as well as subjects and styles that cater for many people. Obviously any input in this is very welcome. Eventhough Covid has thrown a major spanner in the works, we just planned in a new stag workshop with Sunnybank Gardens in Hatfield (which includes a delicious afternoon tea) and we did the same workshop at Yorkshire Ales in Snaith. Follow me on facebook as there are more dates to come on this one! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bright-stag-painting-workshop-afternoon-tea-sunnybanks-tickets-122760944289

Inspiring christmas decor

Image
Inspiration can come from anywhere. Shopping for some new Christmas decorations I stumbled across this piece. I loved the vivid blues, turquoise and gold colours on this piece and was itching to do something with these colours. See here the result - My peacock Stag. I used the vivid colours but added some warm tones as well emphasising the greens and purples. To really set them off I also used some gold. I am usually not so keen of metallic paints but I felt it really added to the painting.  I hope you like it too. If you like it so much you want it on your own wall - its yours for £275.  The peacock stag is on show at The Green Room in Rawcliffe     Peacock Stag

Windy Wintery Memories

Image
Growing up in the Netherlands, I remember those icy winds. We would go for a walk (for pleasure of just catching a bus and somehow it didn't matter how many layers you wore - the wind would cut right through you. I don't think this tough guy has the same problem. I wanted to capture the thickness of its coat and the movement in the wind. With his eyes slightly squinted I wonder what its thinking about... I used my palette knives to create the structure of the horns, blending in the different colours in a horn like fashion. The thick acrylic paint lends itself very well to add texture which I've used to emphasis the thick wool. As usual, I like my colours and added many shades of purple, blue and brown without loosing the cool wintery feel. My 'signature' wooden frame adds to the subject and really finishes it off.  I've called it 'curly wurly' and is for sale for £275 - call me to check availability.

Powerful Art

Image
Is art more than just pretty pictures? Can it change your life? Sounds a bit far fetched but is it? Personally, I joined our local art class to have a bit of 'me'-time, away from kids, family and work, as well as to socialise with other people. It kept me sane. That's just me. But more and more articles are appearing about the positive impact of art on people's mental health just by looking at art. The impact is even greater when interacting and creating your own pieces.  These figures were a result of a study of the effect weekly art workshops for people experiencing depression, stress or anxiety in Cambridgeshire for the past seven years. An evaluation revealed a 71% decrease in feelings of anxiety and a 73% fall in depression; 76% of participants said their wellbeing increased and 69% felt more socially included. As one participant says: “I feel so much better having had the time and space to do some art. It makes such a difference.”   The feedback I get from...

A picture says a 1000 words...

These days with our smart phones and digital cameras its easy to make a nice picture. But sometimes its hard to capture the right light, the right atmosphere, the mystic of the moment. Nowadays our cameras and phones are overloaded with smart software that automatically correct the scene. Great, but not always. I made these pictures of my family on one our long beach walks - and beach bike rides! I couldn't get the lighting right with the camera, but luckily I could with the brush! My sister-in-law loved the photograph of the boys on the bikes and asked if I could paint it for her . My chance to portrait the light and the colours as I remembered it. Result? A memory for a life time...  Do you have a picture of a special moment or for a special person? Say it with a painting...
