Windy Wintery Memories

Image
Growing up in the Netherlands, I remember those icy winds. We would go for a walk (for pleasure of just catching a bus and somehow it didn't matter how many layers you wore - the wind would cut right through you. I don't think this tough guy has the same problem. I wanted to capture the thickness of its coat and the movement in the wind. With his eyes slightly squinted I wonder what its thinking about... I used my palette knives to create the structure of the horns, blending in the different colours in a horn like fashion. The thick acrylic paint lends itself very well to add texture which I've used to emphasis the thick wool. As usual, I like my colours and added many shades of purple, blue and brown without loosing the cool wintery feel. My 'signature' wooden frame adds to the subject and really finishes it off.  I've called it 'curly wurly' and is for sale for £275 - call me to check availability.

Powerful Art

Is art more than just pretty pictures? Can it change your life? Sounds a bit far fetched but is it? Personally, I joined our local art class to have a bit of 'me'-time, away from kids, family and work, as well as to socialise with other people. It kept me sane. That's just me. But more and more articles are appearing about the positive impact of art on people's mental health just by looking at art. The impact is even greater when interacting and creating your own pieces.  These figures were a result of a study of the effect weekly art workshops for people experiencing depression, stress or anxiety in Cambridgeshire for the past seven years. An evaluation revealed a 71% decrease in feelings of anxiety and a 73% fall in depression; 76% of participants said their wellbeing increased and 69% felt more socially included. As one participant says: “I feel so much better having had the time and space to do some art. It makes such a difference.”   The feedback I get from...

These days with our smart phones and digital cameras its easy to make a nice picture. But sometimes its hard to capture the right light, the right atmosphere, the mystic of the moment. Nowadays our cameras and phones are overloaded with smart software that automatically correct the scene. Great, but not always. I made these pictures of my family on one our long beach walks - and beach bike rides! I couldn't get the lighting right with the camera, but luckily I could with the brush! My sister-in-law loved the photograph of the boys on the bikes and asked if I could paint it for her . My chance to portrait the light and the colours as I remembered it. Result? A memory for a life time...  Do you have a picture of a special moment or for a special person? Say it with a painting... SUPER SAVER FRIDAYS

Image
For a limited time only, the friday workshops will be 4 hours long so you can spend more time to create your own master piece while socialising with others. For people with less time the tuesday night workshops are ideal. Relax with a glass of wine while learning a new skill or possibly creating a personal gift for a loved one...  WHY DO A PAINTING WORKSHOP? Apart from spending a nice morning, meeting lovely people at a beautiful location, making something you didn't expect you could do and take it home to show everyone, Its also proven to be good for you! Studies have proven that Art in any form, whether while creating or observing, reduces the stress hormone called cortisol. It also releases the feel-good hormones called endorphins which helps you combat stress and pain. By letting you enjoy a sense of accomplishment, it transforms you into a more positive, well-rounded human being. Just think, the benefit of a massage or facial last up to a couple of days maybe a we...
